Spotlight is where deserving individuals are given special recognition for the contributions
they have made to society in the arts education and other important fields.
Hailing from Bethlehem, PA, Ryan was destined to be a musician. Growing up in a musical household- his father
is a band director/jazz pianist and his mother a professional classical pianist- he got his start in music from the very beginning. It
was inevitable that Ryan would start playing the piano at an early age, which he did at four, and by the age of seven he began playing
the Horn which would inspire and shape his musical career for the rest of his life.
At ten, he started a career as a professional actor, touring with the national Broadway touring company for the show Ragtime.
Following a few commercial appearances and other stage shows, in 2001 Ryan decided to go back to school and return to normal school
studies, although he continued to act and perform music. In fact, his music studies continued to accelerate, leading him to perform
in many exemplary ensembles including the Honor Band of America in which he held the principal horn position in 2006.
Currently, Ryan is in demand as a performer on the Horn, piano, and voice, and also as a music director and conductor. He has held
top positions in the music ensembles at Indiana University, where he is currently pursuing a degree in Horn Performance with Jeff Nelsen
of the Canadian Brass. In addition, he continues to work in musical theater as a musical director, vocal coach, and accompanist.
Ryan's arranging and orchestrating skills have been used for four years by the State Theatre in Easton, PA for its television awards
The Freddys Award. He has also done arrangements for Jeff Nelsen and the Canadian Brass.
Ryan has also experienced success as a composer. His first published piece, Variations on Deck the Hall was selected as an
Editor's Choice in its first year of publication by J. W. Pepper, and remained a top seller on the website for the entire season.
He has also composed other significant works, including pieces for choir, chamber ensembles, and solo piano. In addition, Ryan has written
many songs in the pop genre, and he is currently working on a collaborative recording project.
On an added note, Ryan's faith in God continues to be a big part of his life. He recently went on tour with a
Christian rock band, Stop on Green, as lead pianist, vocalist, and assistant musical director, as part of a summer project with
Campus Crusade for Christ. He and the rest of the band used their stage performances as a vehicle to share the gospel of Jesus Christ
with their audiences.
